Iran/Historic and Cultural Persia
Published in Paperback by Passport Pub (October, 1994)
Authors: Helen Loveday and Thomas Cook Ltd
Average review score:

Great guide book!
This guide book may lack the extensive lists of hotels and restaurants that Lonely Planet guides have, but for someone who is curious about travelling to Persia, this is a great idea. There are some nice photos, information on how to get there, and a good amount of cultural notes. While some of the material is probably outdated, its a great book for those who are interested in Iran.

Where there is a will there is a way. Great movie potential
This true life fascinating story, about a great man, is an inspiration to others, especially the young. It shows what one can accomplish with tremendous determination, perseverance, a creative mind, timing and an adventurous spirit.

Having known and worked with the author for many years, I can say first hand that this story would be enjoyable for the young, the old, the adventurous and politically minded. It is both educating and quite entertaining.

Read it!

Jamie Oliver: The Biography
Published in Hardcover by Blake Pub (September, 2002)
Authors: Tim Ewbank and Stafford Hildred
Average review score:

Touching! A Real Tear Jerker! Newberry Award Winner!
Crackingly British biography of our favourite "tongue-pushing" chef from his glorious (and almost regal) East-end fame. This is a brutally frank, almost cockney tale of how young Oliver rose to culinary stardom with his fantastic recipes and has worthless insight of his beyond horrible music group, "Mother Russia." Each page is filled with a "rogering" of recipies, each with a "Big Ben/Parliament" type of enigmatic splendour. As a Brit, I know all too well of how chefs are often the [fool] of the culinary joke, but with Oliver and the often buxom Nigella Lawson, we're put England back on the map of dining delights. As such, we Birchshire-ians will one day take over the deep-fried, carnival world of food and triumph beyond the gates of heaven. Bloody Outrage!

Japan at War: An Oral History, Part 2 (8 Cassettes)

Author: Haruko Taya Cook
Average review score:

The untold stories
The Cooks show the other side of a horrific war. Through compelling oral histories insight into what was happening throughout the pacific war is given. The tales will make you cringe and cry. You will see war on the human level instead of the govermental. The Cooks exhibt the meaning of Rashomon through their interviews. If you want to know the whole story that is not found in text books start here.

Jewish Artwork by Esky: Complete Set of Jewish Graphics
Published in Paperback by Preferred Enterprises (June, 1994)
Author: Esky Cook
Average review score:

Excellent Teachers' resource for Jewish pictures
The Esky books are not something to read. They are something to look at and admire. They are the most useful books around. These books contain pictures for any Jewish occasion or topic under the sun. The drawing are extremely eye catching for children. I have used the pictures to make adorable stencils for my students, for stunning camp newsletter covers, and many more projects too numerous to list. The author, Esky, allows you to enlarge or shrink his drawings to any size necessary, if used for educational purposes. Soon, Esky clipart will also be available on CD Rom and I will definitely be one of the first to buy it!

John Sarich at Chateau Ste. Michelle: For Cooks Who Love Wine
Published in Hardcover by Sasquatch Books (October, 1997)
Authors: John Sarich and Lori McKean
Average review score:

Fantastic cookbook for Italian / Mediterranian recipies
I don't have that many cookbooks, but this one is by far my favorite. Great selection of recipies, suggestions for putting together an entire meal.

Most things in the book are much easier to make than they appear served - meaning that it'll make you look good without too much effort.

Josefina's Cook Book: A Peek at Dining in the Past With Meals You Can Cook Today (American Girls Collection (Paper))
Published in Paperback by Pleasant Company Publications (September, 1998)
Authors: Tamara England, Susan McAliley, Mark Salisbury, and Valerie Tripp
Average review score:

Try It, You'll Like It!
Josefina's Cookbook has a variety of foods that are common in the traditional New Mexican diet. New Mexican food is unique to the region and includes items that are not even in the Hispanic diet in neighboring states. In a state whose State Question is "Red or Green?" (as in "Do you prefer red or green chile?"), caution must be taken in trying new foods if you are sensitive to spicy-hot foods, as many children are. If you are unfamiliar with what is HOT in the New Mexican diet, going out and buying a New Mexican cookbook to introduce your children to this type of food may meet you with watering eyes and children reaching for tortilla chips to neutralize the burn.

Josefina's Cookbook is a much better choice for children because it is filled with child friendly recipes that still represent the New Mexican diet. Some of the recipes are for small items, like home-made tortillas, hot chocolate, soft cheese, and pinto beans. Empanaditas (little empanadas), posole, green chile stew, and carne adovada are more meal oriented recipes. Just remember the sopaipillas if you are cooking with chile!

The format of this book is a joy to look through even if you want to learn about New Mexican cooking without preparing the more adventurous items. The ingredients and cooking equipment are listed at the beginning of each recipe and the recipes themselves are well written and illustrated. It won't be hard for a girl to find something that she'll want to try.

Kai Korero: A Cook Islands Maori Coursebook
Published in Paperback by University of Hawaii Press (October, 1996)
Authors: Kai Korero, Tai Carpentier, and Clive Beaumont
Average review score:

A good introduction
This is a very good introduction to Cook Islands Maori. Each point is simply explained, with lots of examples. You won't be fluent in Maori, but you can hold simple conversations. If you buy the tapes as well, it's the next best thing to being in Rarotonga, except you don't get the beaches and the food.
